After a season start that was colored by miscues, mistakes, and missed opportunities, Mike Romine put it all together for a dominating performance at the AHDRA race in Norwalk, Ohio. An out-of-the-trailer 6.49 to qualify #1 started the dream weekend. 'No one was more surprised than we were when we unloaded with the 6.49,' stated Romine. 'Although we knew the bike was more than capable, we thought the heat and humidity would create more problems than they did. However, the Norwalk crew had the track in excellent shape and I was able to stand on it.'
The Norwalk win is the second of the season (the first win coming at the NHRA race in Bristol, Tennessee). According to Crew Chief, Patty Romine, 'This should have been the fourth or fifth win of the season. We have qualified well and the bike has been flying, but stupid little things kept taking us out of the race early. However, we are confident that we have a handle on things and now can concentrate on getting those wins.'
Romine has moved into second place for the AHDRA Top Fuel national points chase and is only 24 points away from first. With the season only half over, the Romine's are excited about the second half. 'We are always striving for consistency,' Mike stated, 'but when you can pair that consistency with low e.t.'s, you just have an unbeatable combination. I think we can carry that combination into the rest of the races this year.'
Mike Romine is sponsored by Harley-Davidson of Salt Lake City, Romine Cams, Chromatic, Performance Machine, Fram, Autolite, Ross Pistons, Mickey Thompson Tires, and Competition Distributing.
