Romine Storm Hits Heartland
Double Rominey at AHDRA race in Earlville, IA
Like a summer storm, Mike and Jack Romine exploded into the newest AHDRA race venue, Earlville, Iowa. After a six week layoff from the racing action, Team Romine was ready to play, and play they did as Mike won the Top Fuel class and Jack won the Pro Fuel class. Jack, who normally crews for the Pro Fuel bike that is owned and ridden by Jim Fagan, also assumed the riding duties after a last minute work conflict kept Jim at home.

Mike, who has held the points lead since the first race of the year, increased his lead over the #2 spot to 206 points. If there was any doubt that Mike Romine is serious about keeping the #1 plate, those doubts should have been erased by his consistent performance at Earlville. Romine was in the #1 spot after his first qualifying pass of 6.56 and teammate Joe Timmons was in #2 with a personal best time of 6.68. For second round of qualifying, Mike had to switch lanes and the bike spun out of the groove, netting him an e.t. of 8.48. Mike decided that he preferred the right lane and would stay there if he could keep lane choice, which was exactly what he did - posting consistent times from that point on of 6.59, 6.58, 6.55, and 6.56.

Meanwhile, Jack's e.t.'s were getting steadily better as he got a handle on the Banana's new clutch set-up -ending up qualified #3 with a 7.19. On elimination day he, too, found some consistency, posting e.t.'s of 6.98, 6.93, and 6.95. Bike owner, Jim Fagan, was delighted as he maintained contact by phone throughout the weekend.

With five races left on the AHDRA schedule, the Romine team just wants to continue what they're doing right. The team next heads to Bristol, one of Mike's favorite racetracks, where he has traditionally had a lot of success and has already won one race in 2006.

Romine Racing is sponsored by Harley-Davidson of Salt Lake City, United Specialities, Romine Cams and Engines, Chromatic, Performance Machine, Ross Pistons, and Fram/Autolite.
