Although Mike Romine lost in the final at Bristol, he won the battle as he increased his points lead for the 2006 AHDRA Top Fuel Championship. With only four races to go, Mike has accomplished an impressive record of performance so far - 8 races, 4 wins, 2 runners-up, and 2 semi-finals. This consistent level of performance has helped him amass a 229 point lead over the #2 person in points, Jay Turner. However, stoic as ever, Mike is not taking anything for granted, 'Yes, we have a pretty good points lead, but I am trying to not even think about that. We will skip the next race (Woodburn, OR) and concentrate on winning the last three. One race at a time.'
Though Mike made it to the final round in Bristol, he was somewhat disappointed in the bike's performance. 'There was something missing all weekend. The bike just wasn't the animal that it has become. I need to take it home and just freshen everything. The bike has already had a long, hard season and I think it might be time for lots of new parts.'
The Romine Racing team will be attending the IHRA Skull Shine World Finals in Norwalk, OH for an exhibition, while the AHDRA moves to the west coast for the Woodburn, OR race.
Romine Racing is sponsored by Harley-Davidson of Salt Lake City, United Specialties, Romine Cams and Engines, Chromatic, Performance Machine, Ross Pistons, and Fram/Autolite.
