Six weeks off in the middle of the summer is unusual for a drag racer, but Top Fuel Harley racer Mike Romine has been using the time off to his best advantage - he is finishing his new racebike. 'We planned our schedule so that we could finish all our large customer projects right around the time of the Norwalk race, anticipating that we would be able to focus all our efforts on my new bike between Norwalk and Bristol. We had a match race in Bowling Green, KY the weekend after Norwalk and when we got home we jumped right in on the resurrection of the Nuclear Tomato.'
One week prior to leaving for the Bristol race, Mike has just a few finishing touches on the new Tomato. 'It looks like we are going to make it. Our fans will be happy to know that the old familiar red with yellow flames paint scheme is back. We have paired the old paint scheme with the latest state-of-the-art equipment for a spectacular and beautiful brand-new Top Fuel bike.'
Mike's plan is to run the new bike during test and tune on Friday. If everything goes the way the team hopes, the new Tomato will be in competition on Saturday and Sunday. If expectations are not met, the old black warrior will be waiting in the trailer to be unloaded and raced. See you in Bristol!
