As the 'super powers' of Nitro Harley have rallied for position early in the season, Mike Romine patiently built his new weapon as he raced his proven arms, the Flyin' Banana. His new Nuclear Tomato sat patiently in the arsenal as the Banana qualified number one in Virginia.
Monday following the event, shined and ready, Romine rode the Nuclear Tomato into the right lane burnout box of Virginia Motorsports Park. On a perfect, sunshiny slightly windy day the Tomato made a solid first pass in 2001 with Romine aboard. While a 7.32 wouldn't have qualified in the stellar 2001 Screamin' Eagle Nitro Harley IHRA events so far, it would have won the first event at Rockingham. It also proves that all systems are go. It proves Romine's abilities to not only build a competitive Nitro Harley and do it quickly.
Romine attributes much of the instant readiness of his Nuclear Tomato to his PRP Elite Motor, his proven combination of components and his unending sponsor support. Though the IHRA Iron Man has eluded Romine's grasp, the likelihood of acquisition nears. While his competitors scramble to rebuild after the carnage in Virginia, Romine calmly sits ready. Ready to ride his Nuc in Canada, he begins the process of considering his tune-up for the first northern event of 2001.
After a semi-final finish in Rockingham, the number one qualifying position in Virginia, Romine is positioned well in the points chase to contend for the title as well as his first winners circle in 2001.
Mike Romine and his Nuclear Tomato are sponsored by Chromatic, Andrews Products, Saddlemen, PRP Elite and Romine Racing. Keep up with the team at www.mikeromine.com.
